Potters Choice

In Isaiah 64:8 it says that God is the potter and we are the clay.

I got to thinking about this and something that stood out for me is that we are all born into different circumstance and some of us may not be pleased with the life we’ve been given.

Now I can understand how some people can be dissatisfied with their lives.

Some people seem to have a lot more than others and some people seem to struggle their whole lives just to get by.

However, what if we have been looking at things the wrong way.  What if we began to understand that whatever our circumstances might be, God can use it for his glory and our good.

So bare with me a little bit as I share a scenario with you.

What if we were allowed talk to God prior to being born.

Imagine our spirit along with many other spirits are standing before God as he’s about to assign us to our earthly bodies.

Now imagine that we know the world has been infested with pain and sin and addiction and all kinds of issues that people deal with on a daily basis.

God then tells us “my children, I have an assignment for you, I am going to send you to the world and some of you are going to be assigned as worship leaders and you will have many people following you because your music is going to bring them closer to me, life will be nicer for you because you will find things easier as a result of your ministry on earth”.

The various souls that are standing before God are jumping up and down screaming “Pick me, Pick me”.

Then God says “and some of you are going to be born into horrible situations, you will live in poverty and often times you will find it hard to get by, but I promise to provide for you.  Others will suffer greatly due to various issues that are in your situation you are going too.  And some of you will have just enough to get by, while others will live a little better than you”.

Suddenly all the souls start to back off because no one wants that assignment.  I mean no one wants to go down to a sin infested world where there is bickering, arguing, racism, and judgmental people and surely they don’t want to go being the underdog.

God looks at his children and reminds them that he is the potter and he gets to decide where we go.

There is silence in Heaven for a while because no one wants to go.

So God then lets his children know that he needs us to go to the world and he needs us to trust him when he assigns us.

He needs to place us all in various parts of the world so he can do his will through us.

God wants us to trust him, do our best while we are here, pray for circumstances to change and trust that God is working in our lives no matter how ugly or glorified they look.

Your life is here on purpose.

And that is why we don’t get to choose where we go.  Imagine if we did. We would all choose the easier way.  So God chooses for us and asks us to trust him through it.
